favorite gasser

Postby larry blanchet on Tue Aug 21, 2007 5:30 pm

Alright i'll go first. God knows i'm not shy. My favortie gasser (one of them) is the filthy forty owned by charlie hill and driven by pork zartman. The car was just cool. The dark gray primer with the white stripes made it unique and the fact that charlie would never wash it or paint it the color of the rest of the S&S team made it stick out. As everyone knows Pork won the 1963 championship with it. Man we have seen some pictures of that car with just one tire on the ground. Pork could really pull that thing up in the air on the take offs. My husband and i have had the honor of becoming friends with pork and the rest of the S&S team and you couldn't ask for better people   . We own a all steel couple that we have painted and lettered like the filthy and have been to a few shows with the rest of the team. We met big john a few years ago at thompson ohio. What a great guy he was. We really enjoyed talking to him. Well i could go on for alot longer and get into some of the other cars that i like but probably by then you would be sick of reading.

Great photos! I guess every hot rod mag in the 60s at one time or another had a wheelstand shot of the Filthy Forty! It always amazed me how a car, with the tires that were available back then, could "hook "that hard! I've got a few favorites to post if I can figure out how to attach them??Any help.please!

Hi Bobby,

If the pictures are already on your website (or any other) just right click on the photo, click on properties, highlight the url (http://...jpg) and copy it. Then in the window where you're writing your text, click on the Img tag above, right click to paste the url, click on the Img tag again and it should imbed the picture in your post.

I'll try one here from your website.

Thanks Randy, ain't you sharp on this high tech stuff!!! Strange you would pick this particular photo. This was John Carter at US 60 Dragway in Hardinsburg Ky. John passed away earlier this yr. I received word last night that his wife is planning a racers reunion at Lagrange Ky on Sunday Oct 21 as soon as I have more info I'll post it.

Hi Bobby,

I'm not really sharp on this stuff at all. I've been messing around on these forums since '03 and was an administrator of the metalmeet.com website for 2 years. It's just an experience thang.

Randy,
Thanks for adding the pictures of the car. Taking that out in the kacklfest was so much fun and pork had the time of his life. I think he looks really good under the wheel. Yes larry lets me out once in a while he can't keep me under control all of the time.

Gassers

Just a question, why are gassers setting stances high? I think they are awsome but this question sticks in my head. Thanks J D

gasser stance

Postby larry blanchet on Mon Aug 27, 2007 6:01 pm

J.D.
I'm no expert on gassers but everything that i have read says that they use to raise the front of the car to help weight transfer to the rear tires for traction. Most of the cars were actually higher in the front than the rear. Hope this helps some.

Anyone have more pictures to post? Everyone went quite, including myself. It was a very busy summer and I haven't had much time to spend on here lately.

If anyones in the area there's an old racers reunion in Lagrange Ky this Sunday. John Carters widow is putting it together, several notables already planning to attend ..Dale Funk, Joe Williamson, Billy Campbell alot of the Ky-southern Indiana guys. Being from the upper Midwest and loving the Early Willys, I would have to say my favorite was "Ohio George" Montgomery....Phil
